About
Kosson is a community of information science specialists oriented towards improving knowledge, skills and competencies in knowledge and information management, library and information science, eGovernment (information management field), and scholarly communication.
On short this Romanian Community is an alternative channel for access to services and news regarding knowledge and information management, library and information science, eGovernment specialists (information management field), and scholarly communication. This site and all its content is maintained on voluntary bases. In a period of two years we attained a good level of visibility in Romania and international level also if you consider students and Romanian specialists oversees.
We are actively involved in promoting to Romanian specialists open source technologies and instruments and open-access to scholarly communication, new ways of licensing original born digital materials through fair use accompanied with Creative Commons and we also promote the growing usage and creation of open educational resources (OERs).
We began to translate important European policy documents before Romania joined EU. We also provided translation for a major scholarly communication standard: OAI-PMH. We have also undertaken studies to understand better open-access philosophy and practices (core members of Kosson community have signed Budapest Declaration already - BOAI, Berlin Declaration and Cape Town Declaration). Our motto is: "Be the change you want to see in the world" (Gandhi).
